Sorrow, Lemonworld, Vanderlyle and Conversation 16 are my 5s on that one.

Faith and Afraid are the patch I don't like so much, a bit too 'double dreary' as a pairing and strangely I'm a fan of 'Bloodbuzz' but as much as I can see it IS a banger it still isn't a favourite of mine.

Second half from 'Lemonworld' is top class though.

Keep in mind High Violet is tied for my #1 album so it's an extreme case. I also tend to rate songs on my 5s a bit higher than they're probably worth individually just because of the overall mystique they have for being in the context of an album that I cherish to that degree.

Agreed Boney, some songs are brought up by their neighbours - you often get runs of 5s and maybe not each of them is equally strong.

Classic example is the Tindersticks debut - 'City Sickness', 'Marbles' and 'Blood' come thick and fast so you just 5 the lot. 'Patchwork' is real close to a 5 too.

Sometimes the opposite also happens where you know a song is relatively weak but it still brings something valuable to the mix; this is why average song rating doesn't correspond to album rating. If it did I'd only have like five 5s. And sometimes an album with a greater song for song consistency will be the weaker album overall (Boxer vs TWFM being such a case for me, where Trouble is more consistent but Boxer is hands down the better album).

Agreed, I'd never calculate overall album quality from averaging track ratings, it totally misses the point

For a start you've got an album like Sandy Bull's 'Fantasias' where only one song is a 5...but that song is over half the length of the total album and is enough to earn a 5 on its own.
