i dug em in middle school and then i was like wait this is bad writing and spencer is getting progressively more intolerable with each album

"spencer is getting progressively more intolerable with each album" that's precisely the opposite to how i feel, spencer gets better with time and somehow i don't even know if he's peaked yet. wild for someone already in my top 5 favorite singers ever.

im glad other people dig it i just personally dont vibe with it anymore. thing about p1 is his voice still has some bite to it due to it being rough around the edges but after that album it just got way too sterilized
growls got better over time tho for sure. not sure if i would dig p1's or later for growls more if i returned

if only he wasn't mixed so low that it's nigh-impossible to understand what's being sung without specifically focusing in on P1...

i think it goes for everything in the band tbh like everything after p1 just got way too clean and processed sounding for me. the imperfections of p1 are what made it great for me. idek if i still like that album i havent jammed it since like early 2017 but in middle school i always gravitated to it over any of their others for this reason. just kinda has this charm to it even in the roughest moments of his voice and the wankiest part of the instrumentation
never dug racecar tho thats the most overhyped song of all time people only call it amazing cause its hella long

i definitely can see what you mean, for me what really pushed me in was how, honestly beautiful some of the tracks on P3 were. Absolomb and Lune are tearjerkers.

agreed Drifter, Periphery I was easily their best for the fact that it was rawer and rough around the edges compared to the more clinical sound of their later albums

their debut is already at a bit of a disadvantage due to not really having a "Mile Zero" type of song that's fully invested in the melodrama and emotion that i look for to where even if they re-did the whole thing with P4 quality i don't think i'd like it as much as their other records

I think if someone could help Spencer write the lyrics, even just rewording some of them, would elevate their music. The dude knows how to write a vocal line but isn't the best at elevating his language.

I feel the opposite, although not necessarily regarding lyrics. Dude has pipes but sometimes writes downright atrocious melodies

y'all say that about his lyrics but it was the hook of Marigold "the misery's killing me slowly / give me a spine to work it out" that made my ears perk up and pushed me headfirst into loving this band, then i paid more attention to Absolomb "do you care at all / i don't see a difference / is this love at all?" and other tracks like Mile Zero and whatnot

I would agree that some of Spencer's lyrics are pretty strong and certainly visceral. But there have been a few instances, especially on IV, where I'm actually drawn out of the song because of the lyrics when all it took was a quick fix.
Ex:
"You had the day but you pissed it away
I think it's time that we show our ways"

tbh i tend to tune lyrics out when they don't provide much relatability and just try to let the music speak for itself, like Reptile does in this instance
