I'm doing this in hopes Venin will appreciate it:
It has to start somewhere - cheesy lyrics. general sound is recycled underoath. its not bad its just unoriginal even for them
Rapture - absolute radio rock poo chedda. everything is basic bitch, including that shitty dad riff
On my teeth - most of the good parts again sound recycled. like the first verse sounds like they wanted to re-make the tenacity of Illuminator but with lamer guitar riffs. the guitar almost doesnt even sound like a guitar. its just weak and not heavy like they probably wanted it to be. chorus is catchy though
Wake me - more radio rock drivel. those verses are embarrassing AF. cheesy piano. vocal melodies and oooh oh oh are stupid.
Bloodlust - actually a decent track. not amazing, but fun and not as boring as the others with a throwback bridge
Sink With You - possibly my favorite thing here in competition with No Frame. its at least different and Spencer is great. Bridge is fun AF
Ihateit - another retread mostly besides the chorus. so much sounds like their old stuff. the chorus is catchy in a bad way. like radio music that gets stuck in your head that you hate
Hold Your Breath - another retread mostly. sounds like other stuff they have already done better previously. chorus is great though as is the bridge
No Frame - great track. nothing to complain about here really
In Motion - just generally boring. nothing I would directly complain about, but its pretty in one ear and out the other
I Gave Up - this doesn't sound like traditional radio, but it sounds like UO doing radio. like their version. soft, mass-appeal verses. the synthy stuff overlayed is p cheese. The heavy solo-y bridge is p sick though.
Now summaries and individual performance breakdowns: my track by track prob reads like a 2.5 (if we’re keeping score, that’s 5 “good” tracks, 4 boring/average ones, and 2 trash ones) but because its them and I know what they’re capable of, this is pretty poor. Especially when of the 5 “good” tracks I generally have no desire to return to them. Spencer’s performance is fine and sometimes great, but a lot of the vocal melodies are garbage throughout. Most of the riffs range from average to terrible. Sounds completely uninspired and like a has-been tried to do metal/rock again. Bass is mostly non-existent. Slightly above average drumming. The one person who actually brought it was Chris but even some of his artistic choices were very cheesy.
The album has “metal with mass appeal” written all over it, similar to Architects and BMTH, but it is poorly executed with largely poor vocal melodies, bad songwriting, and uninspired guitar parts.

Super late to this dumpster fire but I gotta say:
"gee I wonder who could've caused this thread to gain so many pages so quick, couldn't be the dumbass waste of space I'm thinking of could it"
immediately followed by:
"is it safe to come back in or is it still a warzone"
might be my favorite comment combo on the entire site and I want to thank Steak for making it happen.

i dunno, to me it all feels like a cut above what i'd generally hear on Octane or whatever even if it's stylized in a similar way. and i think Bloodlust is my least favorite because i find the hook there in particular grating.
"architects pulled off this shift even worse ngl" that one perplexes me even more because so much of that album still feels like the Architects formula, just without the bleghs and more cleans to me. if ya didn't see it coming after Holy Hell, you probably didn't listen because so much of it hinted at this.

holy hell also sucks architects havent put out a fully great album since 2014 but new architects takes it up a level and makes the listener suffer through 15 fuckin awful tracks where this is at least more merciful w the runtime and has like 3 songs that are almost okay. you're right in the sense that they've been formulaic and lackluster for a bit tho where underoath went from being some of the most inventive and interesting songwriters in the genre to some of the lamest

All Our Gods came out in 2016 tho, as for new Architects i'll admit its a bit overblown which is what keeps it from getting higher than a 3.5, but in particular "Impermanence" and the closer hit for me on a deeper level

all good, i went off on some other dude for it a bit too hard but to be fair they're an actively obnoxious user with an aversion to all things related to what i look for musically so it wouldn't have shocked me if they were doing it intentionally to be a shithead, i actually kinda respect you :P
