idk, "variation in loudness between notes and phrases" sounds like "how loud or quiet something is" to me

Sparknotes for ya Ledd: Is something more dynamic when the range between its various sounds is maximized, or is it more dynamic when the music allows itself enough vacant space to emphasize the precise ebb and flow of texture(s)?

The answer is: Daughters sure are a cool band, huh?

if an artist is constantly variating in loudness within a narrow spectrum between, say, very quiet and pretty quiet, they are just as m u s i c a l l y dynamic as an artist who plays soft one moment and then turns it right up the next
this is not a hot take and contrasts between volumes should not have to be exaggerated to be considered dynamic

Everything is relative and only exists within the parameters it sets for itself!!!

Johnny wouldn't your name be more grammatically accurate if it was JohnnyoftheGood?

who said contrasts had to be exaggerated? i don't have to play imperceptibly quiet and then ear-splittingly loud to be considered musically dynamic

i think you'll find that nothing exists outside of the parameters of melody and loudness set by sufjan stevens
and tbqf my name is an affront to the english language i will delete myself immediately

are we at least on the same page that volume quite literally isnt what dynamics is? because simply equating the two is actually such a braindead fucking take

"Musical dynamics" refers exactly to that one bit in the CoL song Ghost Trail where he yells "THE KIIING" and absolutely nothing else tbh

This is covered in many musical theory texts

'can we turn this music up its at such a low dymanic right now'

this is what colton apparently thinks

"who said contrasts had to be exaggerated?"
colton did, in stating that playing across a wider dynamic range is all that constitutes 'dynamic' playing, and i think we can all now see why this was a dumb take

ok Colton is technically correct (by literal definition) but by the broader interpretation of "dynamic" I also disagree
