"I see all those old dudes out there just banging their heads to our records," Reinert said, wearing an imposing goatee and extra-large Miami Dolphins jersey. "And I have to think — 'That stuff you're banging your head to? That is some gay, gay metal, man.'"

I'm guessing most know this, but it reminds me of how many of the Norwegian bm bands are prejudiced toward homosexuals, and yet that black leather with spikes look that so many of them wear was essentially popularized in metal by Rob Halford of Judas Priest, who's gay.

" and yet that black leather with spikes look that so many of them wear was essentially popularized in metal by Rob Halford of Judas Priest, who's gay."

Yeah but Halford didn't come out til '98 and just because a gay man wore those things doesn't really mean they're gay accessories.

Yeah I mean its the 21st century and homophobia is a dated relic of blind religiosity that has no place in the modern world. You'd think the metal scene at large would be ahead of the curve in that regard, what with the rebellious attitude against cultural constructs and whatnot.

I wasn't saying that they're gay accessories, as 99% of the people who wear them think of them as quite the opposite I'm sure, which is what I found funny

Also MayhemWithMercy there's been confirmed rhetoric and even violence done against gays by Norwegian bm band members throughout the 90s, tho I think many of the big bands like Darkthrone or Ulver aren't about that, or the church burnings, etc.

Darkthrone weren’t always the nice cool dudes they are today, and Fenriz was rather heavily influenced by Varg. Hence the NORSK ARISK BLACK METAL on their first printing of Tranny Hunger.
