Not really. Pretty divisive album imo. Lots of people swear it is death's best and lots swear it is death's worst. Think someone mentioned that already

The minority of people who don’t like this album are incredibly vocal. In fact, I always thought this was a great love-hate album until I discovered this site and felt comforted by that 4.4 rating. I still think back to a situation where someone called me a “gay christian poser” for liking TSOP. But yeah, everywhere you’ll go you’ll find at least one dude that openly hates this album.

I like it quite a bit. I just believe that every other death album is better

You’re good bro, you aren’t one of the dudes who gives this a 1/5 and calls you a poser for liking it.

Okay even if you think that, this record is beyond a 3.5 easily

Goat band but for me this always took the cake from the first time I jammed it. I'm surely biased by the sadboi nature of it but as much as I try the others are just not as exciting musically.
For example for me Story to Tell is such a terrific song, the transition around 1:40 is genuinely a gut punch and then that suddenly uplifting solo starts around 2:35 and what the hell can I do other than handing Chuck the keys to my house. Also Christy can choke my cymbal anytime if he says no homo

Worst death by a landslide [2]
"this record is beyond a 3.5 easily"
Idk without their other albums as context, id probably give this a 3, but there's not even one song here I enjoy start to end. Which is criminal when every other album is just crammed full of exceptional tuneage
That being said, I absolutely understand why those who do enjoy it do.

Totally fair man.
The B side is definitely weaker for this band, but imo the A sides are all really strong. Not even a fan of Bite the Pain or Flesh?

There’s still some good riffs, but I can’t stand how the vocals sound on here. Kinda takes me out of it.

There's a couple tasty bass licks on Bite the Pain, but nothing else on the track hits the mark. On Flesh, there's a 10 second passage that pops up a few times (3:03, 3:23, 7:45, 8:05) that I really enjoy, but the rest of the song does next to nothing for me.
And that's how most of the songs on here go for me lol
@ziggity yeah vocals are a detraction here as well, but I think the riffs are where this album lacks most.

Agreed this their worst, and I actually had to drop this album recently to a 3.5. Ain't feeling it as much
