I can get why some people would hate moonchild but I still dig it myself

Nah Moonchild is 3rd best. Its better than schizoid man. People just don't get free improvisation.

I get free improvisation if it doesn't suck. There's a reason Fripp himself cut it short on some re-release. Would you say it's because he didn't "get" it?

@GhandhiLion Exactly. "I Talk to the Wind", as pretty as it is, also has nothing on "Moonchild".

The first Crimson incarnation was often too smart for their audience. I know it after myself - I mean, I always liked their improv stuff a bit (especially "Moonchild"), but it wasn't until after I'd listened to AMM, Frith, Zorn, Supersilent etc. that I came back to "Starless and Bible Black", "Providence" and stuff and was BLOWN AWAY.

@Rik I think he only wanted to cut it because it contained a citation of somebody else's song

Tried to find something about it on the web and you're probably right.

Moonchild is fantastic, even if it goes on a little too long towards the end. Sometimes I even prefer it to one or two others on here.

"People just don't get free improvisation."

lol

The improv in Moonchild is simply just not very good. I really like some of their other improvs and I certainly don't have a problem with improvisation in music in general. Moonchild is definitely towards the bottom of the pile when it comes to King Crimson improv tracks.

yup @AlterTide0 I am starting to think Fracture is their best song

The atmosphere of Moonchild is unmatched. In "The Illusion" it is almost like the guitar and vibraphone are talking to each other. Only thing keeping me from 5ing this is 21st Century Schizoid Man and Talk to the Wind

Moonchild is definitely one of my least favourite 70's Crimson tracks. For me this album would be so much better if it had a decent improv track.

Yeah, Moonchild is the reason I don't have this at a higher rating

For me, this album and Larks' Tongues in Ass Dick are on the lower tier of King Crimson's best work

Moonchild is my favorite KC improv, plus you can't beat the first couple minutes and those lyrics.
