Lol, this album is so awesome. Mikael's cleans still need some work like in Morningrise but he harsh vox are god tier as always
|
| |
His cleans are fine here. They dont need to be perfect, just good enough to get the job done

My favorite growling of his is the first couple minutes of Demon of the Fall, some of the most hellish vocals I've ever heard

Yea they get the job done of course. He's just a tad pitchy at point on this and Morningrise but doesn't really bother me THAT much.

He definitely improves with each album, I think BWP-GR are his peak vocally

I'd say BWP he's definitely at his best

Those layered growls are a definitely highlight of Opeth's discog in general

Epilogue is the most beautiful part of the album

Honestly Mikael's cleans on here are actually my favourite he's done even if they're not his best technically. They just have a certain emotional intensity and sincerity to them.

His cleans on Advent and To Bid You Farewell are some of his best imo, you can really hear its influence on this, BWP, and GR

I saw a live video of April Ethereal performed about a week or two ago, and they're sounding extremely tight on this tour. Mikael's growls are still sounding a bit weak, but his highs are pretty nice.

It's close, but Morningrise is the greatest.

I too prefer Morningrise, not saying that it's my fave though.

Morningrise was the last Opeth record I'd heard by the time I first heard it (late 08) and it blew me away like none of the other records had with the exception of maybe Still Life, and Still Life didn't blow me away like Morningrise because I knew what to expect with it being similar to BWP. Morningrise is the Opeth album that's aged the best for me as well.
