Ashes and Mantle tied for me right now for very different reasons, PF is second place.

Ashes is best. But everything I've heard is great.

To Drown is up there with one of their best

The even-numbered tracks on here (Painted Grey, Black Lake, and To Drown) are all among their best.

Regarding Pale Folklore, I'd say it's better than this but easily the weakest of the first 3. The songs are great and it has many of my favourite Agalloch moments but the solos are consistently godawful.

Unjustified hate on this album. It's lyrics content as always is thought provoking, deep and meaningful. Musically? Well, I don't really think it was possible to top the Mantle in first place, so why so much hate?

PF hasn't clicked with me yet. Still say this is best.

Yeah Marrow was a tough pill to swallow at the time but the album has aged very well. A lot of people even consider it their best these days. The first 3 albums are pretty much on an equal plane for me, but PF is def not the weakest, no way.

Yeah nothing tops the first 3 but this and Serpent are both amazing too imo.

Serpent is very underrated but Marrow blows it away, mostly because it has fresh ideas. Serpent is more like business as usual.

This is better than Serpent agreed, but they're very close for me. First track on Serpent is like top 5 Agalloch songs for me.

Nothing on it is top 5, or even top 15 for me but I do enjoy it quite a bit. I assume you've heard Pillorian? I like that one a hell of a lot as well.

Fuck yeah bro Pillorian rules. Their debut was one of my fav albums of last year, doesn't get enough love at all.

Yeah it's so fucking good. I feel like some bands/albums just generate some kind of weird creepy bandwagon mentality and for whatever reason Pillorian got panned across the board even though the album is insane. The follow-up can't come soon enough.

Pillorian album is rock solid, it isn't remarkable but very enjoyable nonetheless.

I really don't like Serpent, maybe I should try again.
