I switch between this, MAYH, and Morningrise being my favorite Opeth albums on a yearly basis. I like the ghost story on MAYH but I think overall this is a better concept album. The music and lyrics compliment each other so well.

Orchid is a fantastic album, not doubt, but the songwriting improved so much with every release afterwards in my opinion. Orchid to me is, sweet part + sweet part + sweet part etc, but by MAYH it just one giant sweet album if that makes sense. Everything just flows so much more smoothly on everything after Orchid. Orchid for me is still > everything post BWP, but this is a very biased and based almost wholly on nostalgia.
