“this whole underoath reunion has felt like a bit of cash grab tbh”
I remember reading an interview with Spencer awhile back while he was trying to get Sleepwave off the ground and he said there was a point where he was in his house trying to scrape together change to get McDonald’s and he looked up and saw his two gold records on the wall and he just laughed to himself. I can’t really blame them for wanting to go back to at least being a bit comfortable lol. Hell some of my favorite albums have been cash grabs, like a few Zao albums the band said in the documentary they just made because they needed the money

It’s understandable, for sure. Some albums/projects pay the bills and “artistic integrity” ain’t worth poverty and/or homelessness. Plenty of time to make new music and be creative. Legacy ain’t worth shit when you’re living in a car under a bridge

Well the band could have made another one of these and fans would have rejoiced. They didn’t have to make their latest subpar records to make money lol.
Like you can make something that will make you money and have it not be shit.

the last album wasnt even shit anyway lmao, and even if ya didnt like it, it doesnt sound exactly like erase me anyway so that record isnt even a "move towards accessibility" stylistically
and like alright i think erase me sucks as much as everyone else but i dont really shit on the band themselves (or bands in general) bc of their decisions regarding financial sustainability bc its like, their job and shit lmao. the inner workings of the industry piss me off infinitely more than any bad album ever could at this point anyway. the nft shits gotta go tho fuck that

I love this band a lot. Im not singling them out. They’re not the first to do that and they won’t be the last and I totally understand financial woes. Im just saying that you can do all three: make something great, have it be a cash grab, and have your fans love it. I’m sure financial hardship creates time constraints so Whether or not bad cash grabs or good cash grabs are easier I have no fucking idea who am I anyway?

It’s all good either way! It’s difficult to know exactly all the factors anyway. If they love their post-reunion albums, then they did make another great album(s), whether I agree or not. Even if they returned without financial difficulties, still could’ve ended up with the same albums or close to it for all we know. 🤗

Even though I said their reunion feels like a bit of cash grab, I don't blame them for trying to find ways to survive financially. I just personally wish they went about things a bit differently, and put out better material.
The last album was 100% a step in the right direction though and I hope they are able to build upon it.

Very much same. I didn’t like their last album but I love the closing track a lot.
