''There's no melodies in this album'' is a common comment from first time listeners of this album. Once you realize what's really going on, songwriting wise, you gain a lot of respect for Lemay's approach to death metal. The man is a classical composer. It sounds elitist to say this but I believe Lemay and Gorguts (along with a few other bands) are above other Death Metal bands and I believe Lemay is the best, and most interesting songwriter in Death Metal. And I believe that people who listen to and appreciate Gorguts' complexity and melodic genius are more intelligent than average Metalheads. More sensitive, too. Maybe Aspies. Lemay created a new genre and many new progressive/tech-death bands owe him a lot. Shame none of them studied his songwriting. Maybe they would have made more interesting music instead of the sanitary, lifeless, and monotonous wankery they partake in.
