Dio era Sabbath is no less "real" Sabbath than Mark III is the real Deep Purple. I dont hear people say Burn and Stormbringer aren't true DP records.

Well yeah, technically that is true.

I like Burn though and will not deny that it's Deep Purple's. I'd even call the mediocre Slaves and Masters a Deep Purple album, just a colossal disimprovment from the Mark II days and most of Mark III.

By the way I just recently watched DP's 1972 performance of "Strange Kind of Woman" in Denmark, and I envy almost anyone who saw that.

They were really special, probably the best live act of all time. It's hard to imagine that they had such a great chemistry on stage and still they weren't on good terms on a personal level.

I like Mk. III Deep Purple a lot. Much more than Dio-era Sabbath if I dare make that comparison between two bands second best eras.

So true Mano. They were almost the perfect proto-metal artist for three straight albums and Made in Japan. It's a shame they never came close to that level again.

It's not a shame for me. You only peak once in your life-time. It's all downhill from there.

The real challenge is to remain at the top.

Dio's been very consistent throughout his carrier though.

'75-'87 Dio is one of the most consistent things ever

Yeah nothing he did in that period is anything less than a 3.

Anything less than a 4 for me

Sacred Heart and Dream Evil are about 3-3.5 for me, but aside from that agreed.

Oh yeah, forgot about Sacred Heart but it is like the black sheep of the family of that row of Dio albums. Dream Evil is a solid 4 for me though

Possibly the best Sabbath album period.

I cant defend that at all

It's either this, Masters Of Reality, Paranoid, or Tyr. Black Sabbath has one of the most consistently admirable record discographies of any band i've listened to, despite a few mishaps here and there.

I forgot Sabbath Bloody Sabbath as well, Dehumanizer deserves a very honorable mention.
