I can see myself dropping this to a 3.5 later down the track tbh its very good but its almost annoyingly back to basics for Converge. Like I kind of expect them at this point in their career to be bolder and more experimental. However it is a good reminder to the new kids on the block of what meralcore is at its heart i guess. Albums a ripper but angry stuff like this isnt my jam these days

Most of us were not expecting reinvention of anything, just perhaps more dynamics, more intricacies, more emotion, more connection, and even more “oh shit” moments. This is mostly just angry bangers, and for some that’s not enough to slap a 4.5 on it even if they’re great
