I used to have that view, but after listening to a TON of other music, I go back to BtBaM and it all just sounds like a mess. Sometimes they have an awesome section and they change like 20 seconds after.
Also keep in mind that there was a point in time where I had this album, Alaska, Colors, and The Great Misdirect at 5s.

understood. and I do understand why people don't like this band and their style, believe me. But trust me, in analyzing their compositions and listening to albums in full as a music theory 'guy'/musician, I can definitely tell you that you are calling 'brilliant chaos' a mess, but i understand your view. As a musician, I love/respect the riff following riff formula, as being a fan of jazz and post-rock, i am used to weird song structures.

Also, I think you're getting a wrong impression of my view. I respect odd structures and whatnot, but I think that whole approach really takes away from BtBaM's potential. They have such amazing moments that only last for 30 seconds max and they encompass those sections with mediocre/bland riffs to fill space (mostly talking about Colors here, most stuff on this album is great IIRC) but whatevs man. Still a great band in my book.

yeah, some people say that. But I would definitely disagree with the bland/mediocre riffs. Riffwise, BTBAM is the best metalcore (if you call them that) band in existence. If they have flaws, it's most certainly the genre integration that can come off as stupid (i find it brilliant, and not a flaw, but if talking about anything negative associated with BTBAM, that would be it)
