Album Rating: 5.0
I've had this account since I was like 15 so any semblance of my ratings meaning anything is far out the window.
I do not have the time nor really care about keeping it up to date, but I admire the people who do lol

3.5 from johnny on a band he hasn't been sold by consistently is high praise, thats how u know this album is good and all the weirdos coming into the comment box elsewhere are just looking for things to complain about
|
| |
don't make me drop it lmao, part of me is still convinced all deafheaven is a 3 (excepting OCHL with its well-earned 1)
this is definitely one of their best album and has the lowest quotient of obvious misfires of any of their stuff but

the visceral disgust for ochl is always so funny to me but ive already beaten that horse enough
side note, anyone got any cool post-rock/screamo hybrids for me to check out? like in the vein of envy and funeral diner?

“To hijack the thread for a minute: do you guys ever write music then get immediately discouraged because you compare whatever you write to the best stuff you know and find yourself wondering what's the point of releasing something that isn't at least somewhat innovative or standout in some way?
I think we should all write music for our own enjoyment obviously and its subjective but in terms of recording and releasing it I could just never bring myself to put something put that I felt had more or less been done before and done better and was somewhat redundant.
Which applies to everything I write
Anyone relate?”
Bro yes, completely. I constantly size up my drumming vs drummers I like in the genre of my own band. So much so that sometimes I have trouble writing fills that I stick with instead of just winging it

“Album blew me away and this from a “meh” fan of the band. I still can’t get over the production. Flawless. Every song is unique and memorable. I just wish there were more clean vocals, they flow effortlessly with the overall aura of the music. Favorite track : Amethyst.”

It’s time for people to stop policing 5’s. Trying to mansplain what a 5 is or should be to the masses is dumb (I have done it in the past), let people 5 how they wish with “true” classics, classics to them, unblemished records, or some combo of the 3

for me a 5 has no tracks that I view as filler or inessential and that includes interludes and skits. So there goes 90% of double albums imo but what can you do

That's where 4.5s start for me but a few 6/5 tracks can swing an album with some filler

I mean if there was a way to rate an album 6 stars like a Meltzer star rating I'd be more liberal with my 5's
