nah it wasn’t a misstep, it was a continuation on what they were experimenting with Yellowjacket and leaning on nu-metal going industrial pop and it rules

I haven't gotten past the point of hyperfixation on a few of the tracks to give the whole album front-to-back listens, but I'm definitely enjoying the shit out of this record so far.

Crystal roses would have been better if the vocals werent so processed tbh

i like the autotune tbh i think it works well
and yeah rotoscope also slays. much more interesting style really wish they went into that more

Rotoscope single was kind of cool in that they REALLY tried to go out of their comfort zone for once. I don't think it worked. But it was a valiant attempt at something different for once.
And Crystal Roses fucking sucked. Let's just stop pretending that song worked

I think it had potential reminds me a little of Closer by Anathema.

won’t be the more true if you keep insisting, art, the song rules

This will probably end up at 3.5 for me like most of their releases. I might even like this a bit more because it feels a bit darker than usual, more atmospheric even. I dont see the huge drop in quality compared to their other stuff tbh but Ill keep listening

Will I check out spiritbox for the first time? Hmmmmm. I think I’m gonna continue to let this Iotunn album run for now.

While there are some amazing tracks here, I think I’m so bummed because I’m an album guy. I don’t do playlists. I rarely pick apart and play “singles” or anything else. So when I love half of this and hate the other half I know myself and I’m never going to listen to this and that saddens me.
I am truly glad others like this. I’m just sad I’m not one

i honestly think more of this specific lane of core would benefit from carson and slovak, maybe even this band, after how good of results they got out of erra's self titled. but for abr specifically i kinda feel you

Yeah that’s fair. Give like a fresh take to different bands but get away from their current roster lol

with that said, i would at least on paper genuinely be stoked about a dan northlane album lmao

I think I'm more done with Zakk Cervini myself. Seems like he's mixing every metal album that is a little radio friendly. Motionless in White, Breaking Benjamin's last single, Spiritbox's Fear of Fear EP, the last few Bring Me the Horizon, the last few Architects, the latest Limb Bizkit, Bad Omens, Starset....
Dude mixes literally everything these days, it's a good drum sound but I'm so tired of hearing it EVERYWHERE.
