What is crazy to me is the album starts with a Meshuggah groove, and then there’s eventually a classic rock riff driving Bend the Clock, and yet it all works together fine.

'insane that this record is 71 minutes long.....feels a hell of a lot shorter'
That's what grabbed me about this one too.
I've gotten to know this record front to back much faster than a typical DT release.
Highly listenable and Portnoy still brings a special touch to these songs; now I'm curious how the staying power will be how often I'll want to return to this.

Hawks probably secretly loves DT but since he created this anti-DT persona sometime ago he just keeps playing the role.

in portnoy's drumeo interview he talks about what the extracurriculars he does and doesn't do after rejoining.
tldw it seems they gave him back complete autonomy over the setlists, and he also apparently runs their merch again. however, despite co-producing all their albums with petrucci before his departure, petrucci made it clear he would continue producing their albums on his own and portnoy had to agree to that in order to rejoin.

looking forward to see what the setlist will look like for the Parasomnia tour starting in the Fall......you can bet that none of the non-Parasomnia songs that are in the 40th Anniversary tour will be played (maybe Pull Me Under)......they did say they will play the album in its entirety

Bend the Clock and Night Terror are great but the rest kinda floats by. Fun album nonetheless though!

Feel pretty comfortable saying Dead Asleep may be their most boring song since, idk, The Answer Lies Within? Eleven minutes and for what? There's no colorful songwriting there.
