i think the sappiness is definitely there, but i for one can't blame an artist in his mid sixties for feeling the way he does or expressing it. he could've perhaps put it less bluntly or made it less saccharine, but all the power to you, mr. smith. i bet you'll appreciate sappiness a tad better when you get a bit older john

"Even with its minor misstep, Songs of a Lost World is a singularly sombre picture of triumph, a band in their collective 60s still making music so vital and beautiful it can genuinely steal the words from your mouth and the heat from the room"

Just wanna say that this is a damn good piece of writing.

first new album I have bought in a while, totally worth it, RObert hit it on the sweet spot, perect atmosphere. As an old man I really relate the the lyrics, it is strongly in the rotation for the forseeable future. Kinda like what happened with that last John Prine release a few years ago

Memento Mori was fine but holistically it doesn't come close to matching this.

Album really needs a Startsong. The symmetry here is wack.

"robert drop it can never be the same challenge"

went check the setlist for the NOLA show I was at 8 yrs or so ago and apparently that was the first time they ever played that particular tune

so that's kinda cute ^_^
