Crown Candy and GameShark are legitimately the worst songs I’ve ever heard. Tell me I’m wrong.

It is legitimately the worst song they’ve ever made. NMG will always be a mess
The only thing I love off NMG outside the title track and slapstick is the last half of grand paradise. That’s a banger.

Hall of Frozen Heads is hitting me a lot harder than it used to. Such boxer meets the bends vibes and I mean that wonderfully

yeah hall does sound like the national a bit
which given my current inclination for the national is probably part of why its come out on top for me

I just feel like a lot of the album speaks to narcissism and letting it not take over. I’m a narcissist and every part of it speaks on existentialism and bruised ego. The more I connect with it the more I love it
“Kill the buzz saw please
And it’s smiling teeth
Droning frequency
Absent of melody
And all I ever really wanted it to feel like
Has departed from my life
The memory of desire
Feels foreign in my mind”

Okay I'm finally dropping my 5 to this, after several more listens. I'm fascinated by how over the top this sounds. There are unpleasant sounds in the background all the time, half of the instruments are out of tune, drums are distorted, Conor goes all in with his unhinged vocals. It actually reminds me of the latest The Armed record, but this hits far more.

---I just feel like a lot of the album speaks to narcissism and letting it not take over.---
This is an intriguing take. I think it might speak moreso to emotional exhaustion, though -- the entire album feels like clawing back against disaffection with life in general. So many references here to being beaten down, feeling hopeless/absent of purpose, being depressed, etc. There are really only a few moments that lift them out of it, with Cry Baby being the most obvious allusion to learning how to break free and appreciate what they have: "But there’s you smiling when I come home / Yeah there’s you on the other side of the phone / So now I shut it down and lock it up."

You are wrong (2) lol. Gameshark slander this heavy was not on my bingo card, it's incredible. The adrenaline and energy I feel from that track is unmatched, it's such an integral center piece to NMG's first half too. One of their most creative instrumentals too. Crown Candy is for sure the weak track from NMG but I also don't think it's nearly as offensive as people say... it's decent.
Anyway about this album, I think top songs for this one are for sure Greyhound, Gratitude, Dead Internet atp. Opening duo of tracks is also one of the hardest things I've heard this year as well.
I love the sentiment of Cleaning/Barking duo but musically it is a bit more of a lull. Kentucky Mcdonald's is the one track here that doesn't feel essential but it's still great.

Crown Candy is a solid 4/10 song at best, but I've still heard plenty of 0/10 songs in my life. Not even close to worst song ever territory

Yeah Gameshark is a top 10 Foxing song. Crown Candy may be a bottom 10 Foxing song but keeping that in perspective, even the worst Foxing song still beats a lot of other band's mid-to-upper-mid tier efforts.
Opening duo of tracks is one of the hardest things I've heard this year [2]. Glad to see someone else vouching for Dead Internet as well. Agreed that Cleaning/Barking are a bit of a musical lull. Cleaning still packs an emotional punch, though.

Dead Internet is fine tbh, nowhere near my lowlights as far as the abrasive songs here go

My lowlight here, if I had to pick one, is Barking. It feels like a pretty standard indie-rock track in both structure and delivery; someone either here or on another site compared it to The Killers and now I can't unhear it. Not that it's the worst thing, but it isn't on the same level of ambition as the other tracks here. I know a lot of people are shitting on Dead Cat, but that song has balls that Barking doesn't.
