Sitting on the internet telling people what to say, do and to take meds against their will. Love how heinous and absurd some people are.

"It slid off me fairly quickly, but Carnival is his biggest hit since Katy Perry's ET Remix somehow lmao"

lmao had to look this up and its actually true... would've def guessed at least one of bound 2, father stretch my hands, famous, the tik tok song from donda, or especially the watch the throne singles went #1 at some point

yeah, it's honestly wild how Kanye's songs have charted and I think is emblematic of how shaky the charts can be. Those songs you mention had insane cultural staying power and were massively influential. Carnival charting so high over them is kinda baffling, though I understand its appeal.

sales/streams mean way more than chart position

Carnival had ~23.5 mil streams first week.

I love it had ~43 mil with over 75 mil views of the music video

father stretch my hands, bound 2, fourfiveseconds, and Kanye in Paris all have more total streams than I Love It, which had a better first week than Carnival. And Kanye in Paris has nearly a billion and a half total streams. Carnival is not a bigger hit than that lol.

All hitting #3 on billboard means is that the competition is thin. I mean, a Jack Harlow song that released 3 months ago just left number 1.

If anything, it highlights how important radio is and how impressive carnival's performance is. Getting to #3 without radio play is insane

Carnival didn't receive any radio play which factors in to chart performance pretty heavily

it’s emblematic that the current music industry is a stagnant walrus

The point I’m making is that I Love It, for example, had 10 million more Spotify streams than Carnival in its first week, and even with whatever small radio play it got it still charted lower than Carnival. Clearly the threshold to be number 3 is quite a bit lower right now than at the current time I Love It was released.

@colton: no grenade was number 1 for 4 weeks, and has 12 billion Spotify streams. Kanye could never

The threshold is lower because the monoculture dies out a little more each and every year and, yeah, this time of year is generally a little slower. But I also think you are discounting how much radio still factors in
