New BR is v different but yeah has probably filled the comfort jam slot that this held for a week or so. Not as high on texture, but being leaner/a whole let less stodgy helps its case (and the songwriting defs has the edge)

The new BR impressed me a lot first go and I’m not a huge fan of them overall, ‘Misery…’ was a solid album

BR have such a versatile discog / interesting evolution and almost every incarnation of their sound is at least somewhat satisfying (I say 'almost' because Barragán exists). The Misery, 23 + Penny era is certainly their peak run (with 23 at #1 for me)

I feel I should like the band as much as YLT but I've never got to that point - maybe this new one is the catalyst
|
| |
YLT is a good comp tbh - both shy arthouse geeks borrowing generous handfuls of styles other people invented and almost sheepishly making them their own, both take a while to warm up to and are more about the dynamic they bring as a group than the standout value of 85ish% of their tracks

I should check Yo La Tengo then?
not heard a single song as far as I'm aware
|
| |
YLT are nice comfort music, v much a like-not-love band for me but I feel literally everyone who fucks with indie rock has found something valuable in their discog at some point

I get the comparison with the new Blonde Redhead in terms of mood/atmosphere. I think I slightly prefer this one, even though both are excellent. Btw, has anyone heard the new Film School? Less texture and somewhat punchier, but serves the purpose well.
