Theater kid metal is more accurate imo I was a line cook for a while and there was a lot of Norteno and Pantera and one guy who liked Mr. Bungle and Melvins, nothing on this level

And wu-tang, can't forget the wu

This is an occasionally heavy Sam Smith album. Hmmm….

Weird seing the comments about the singer, as for me it is exactly what elevates this band above the rest. Better than the last album, as this one flows better, but I’m pretty sure their best stuff is yet to come for this band. This is probably a 4/5 for me: 5/5 for the genre/production/vibe but songwriting is 3/5.

Bang on about the lyricism. It's just not hooking or impressing me, and I usually use that as an anchor to keep my emotionally interested after the first few listens. Theater Kid metal is right lol

"i thought it was odd how matt sometimes came off sounding like an obsessed fan at times on the podcast but other than that he was a decent guest"

I will say the fallout of Healy's fans finding out about the podcast was really funny. You know they were dying of laughter when it happened.

"i havent read about it but even if it was a real nazi salute he was prob referencing kanye since thats what he was singing about when he did it

misguided decision at worst but idk why u would call him a nazi lol"

yeah when he did it he quoted Trump's "thank you Kanye very cool" tweet. Incredibly tacky to be sure but it's clearly a joke

anyway about the band: I listened to the last record and thought it was ok but had trouble discerning if the dude's vocals were weird in a bad way or weird in a way that enhances the music

nah but i didnt hate this really. the individual components are pretty bad - vocals are jarring, boring djent chugs that barely classify as 'riffs', cheesey lyrics like something from a calvin harris album, trap beats, etc.
but together its better than the sum of its parts and some of it i can see as a guilty pleasure. i can at least respect them for doing something different and carving their own path, even if some of their fanbase is insufferable in trying to put down other bands or genres in attempt to make this sound transcendent
