I do like substitute for love, it’s calming and massively takes me back to the late 90s unfortunately she says subsitoot which drives me up the fucking wall

Frozen is still incredible, so haunting especially from a pop singer

t/t and Frozen are worth the price of admission. A serviceable basis for a mature trip-hop-ish (wha?) sound but man is it overlong and kinda misses the mark too often. Surprised to see this average
preferred the debut overall

Yeah but just like back then few major pop artists were willing to record a full album in that new-age electronic style. You had a few singles like Sting with Desert Rose and Tori Amos with Blue Skies but they brought on Orbit to produce the entirety of Ray of Light and Madonna augmented her style and image to fit into it. The whole thing still feels like pop of the future to me. It’s really an incredible album and I’ve enjoyed it more and more listening to it over the years.

true. what's more is that madonna at the time wasn't just doing new-age electronica, she really made lightning in a bottle by including patrick leonard and implementing more singer-songwriter kinda fare. to me that's what makes this stand out from just being 'madonna-catapults-european-trends-onto-billboard'.
