I feel a large number of people are going to struggle with the stylistic deviations these guys take on this record. The songwriting is strong as usual and I'm really enjoying this personally.

I enjoy most of the music but the story isn't there, the lyrics are a step down from past outings, and the "Ladders of Supremacy" and the title track are a mess.

Summed up my feelings perfectly, actually

^ [3] Story hasn't been there since the Afterman. Lyrics and song titles are pretty boring and feel super tacky, and the last three songs, although unique, are a mess with pretty rough transitions between sections and ideas.
Album is fun at parts, but that doesn't necessarily make it good - especially when compared to their previous work.

"Stay down boy, see ya got clowned boy" will forever be stuck in my mind as perhaps the worst Coheed lyric of all time. If you were trying to make a character sound like a scary bad ass that is not the way. Compare that to lyrics from "Delirium Trigger" and.... sigh.
and yeah, I shouldn't have to buy a poorly written book just to understand what's happening in the concept album.

Yeah there's almost nothing as cool as "Something lurks, creeps on the countertop somewhere behind you / Parasitic cyst, I can't stand to watch / It's crawling up and out of your chest".
Coheed lyrics used to be so vivid and fun.

"Stay down boy, see ya get clowned boy" is an incredible Coheed lyric lol
Vaxis I had "Feel free to cock and load 'em". Some really fun-haters here.
This album is fastly growing even harder on me. It's the right mix of fun and epic and knowing that the story is about Claudio's irl love for his (likely neurodivergent) son just hits me right in the feels. Might 5 this due to tilt. I absolutely adore this album

No Coheed line is as good as "another cock in the wheel / just another cock in the wheel" from Mothers of Men.

After listening to the shit-quality leak for a month, I have to say that the songs sound way better with the official release (yeah, no shit). The lead guitars add a lot of texture that I was missing and I still love the atmosphere of the album - I know the album cover is stupid but that cool blue and grey is the exact feeling I get from this release.
I'm not sure that I get all the criticism about it not having any flow between the tracks but I think Vaxis II works best when listened to as a whole. Songs I wouldn't generally go out of my way to listen to on their own shine in the greater context of the album. Blood, Our Love, and Love Murder One in particular are boosted by listening to the whole thing.

Blood is this album's Night-Time Walkers

Hmm, I enjoy Blood quite a bit but never got into Night-Time Walkers.

What the hell did I just listen to?

They need to drop the absolute overt pop/electronica bits from their music and focus on driving pop into their usual alt/prog sensibilities. No one ever said they were King Crimson levels of prog, but this album makes Good Apollo 1 look like Red on steroids.

Surprised Ladders of Supremacy gets so much love. It's basically the same as Gravity's Union, The Audience and Dark Sentencer, and is probably the most "by the numbers" Coheed track on the record. It's decent, but I'm growing tired of this style of song now. I prefer their proggier tracks to have a bit more energy and fun like in Good Apollo Vol. 1.
It's annoying because if this song dropped earlier in their career I would've been super hyped, but now it's just another "dark, moody Coheed prog song".

I have listened to this album way more than I expected to given how much I didn't care about the last release (other than Darker Sentence). This albums is fun as hell and by far the poppiest thing they have done... the lyrics and story leave something to be desired, but whatever.

Since 07 they have released 6 hit or Miss albums that may not hit the highs of their early work but are fairly consistent. Still headlining fairly large tours for the scene they are in and are playing their old mega hits live consistently. Most recent 2 albums are part 1 and 2 of a 5 part series.
