Pretty much my thoughts exactly. Separate categories. Sometimes polished hooks are exactly what I need. Band also puts on a solid show.

we didn't realize how good we had it as kids. metal in the mainstream used to have real riffs and some edge. god i feel like a bitter old boomer but it's true!
like do kids go from bad omens and sleep token to extreme metal?

@Futures - It was a different time, but scene music/metal is what gradually turned me on to actual more extreme forms of metal over the years.
Granted, it also helped that my older brother was into much heavier stuff than I was at the time, so maybe he rubbed off on me a little.

yeah that's true but even scene metalcore back then was way heavier than what is in the mainstream now. everything really popular now is just so flaccid and wimpy.

@Futures - That's probably not wrong lol. Maybe it's nostalgia but I'd like to think that even the cringiest shit I liked back in HS had more oomph than bands like Sleep Token and President.
