i admire them as part of the record as cool ambient/noisy pieces, ala Salmarnir on Define the Great Line - that's a 4.5 for me too but mostly because no single track is a 5/5 other than Third Eye for me

These days I honestly like it more than lateralus, but those interludes fucking blow imo, useful idiot is the only one I don’t always skip and that’s probably because I forget it exists until I’m already halfway through the song

i just kinda let them do their thing, lateralus is more mesmerizing to my ears with the sick ass bass lines and great drumming. Maynard's there I guess but apart from Parabol/Parabola I tune out the lyrics a lot
