most neo-soul is derivative and boring, tbf.
Some people hate fun in the same proportion they hate slick production and concise, to-the-point song writing.

This definitely sounds like older soul music, plus they're very much leaning into it with the visual presentation and everything so I get why people are making note of it more than usual, but hard agree on metal and rap both being generally pretty derivative
Metal in particular is so derivative that if a band doesn't sound enough like one of the pre-approved combinations of influences they make a new subgenre for it
