Count me in on the hype train for this one.
If I believed in Love and 373 are my favorites at the moment.
It's not NMG tho

Yes it's better. >:]
I don't know why NMG fell off me so hard. I think I hyped it too much on release. Still, I think they're an incredibly consistent band, and it has some of the band's best songs, easily. Big fan of the second half especially.

NMG had a novelty to it upon release because it was the band’s first long-form go at getting weird and it felt especially pronounced after a somber, ambience-heavy album like Dealer. Now that we’ve continued to see them evolve, the former doesn’t feel like as unique an outlier, and in fact makes the few (Dillard’s, Crown Candy imo) swings and misses on it a little less easy to overlook
just my take tho

wow this is mid as fuck. i wasn’t a diehard fan of NMG but there was a lot of cool songwriting and stuff going on there. all I had heard about this one was “wow they REALLY went for it” and I guess that means they make bland 2014 radio indie rock now? title track and lightning and go down together are all so bad. the bookends are pretty good though, relatively speaking

Title track is great agreed

I think your opinion of this will improve over time. Once you accept that it's not NMG and it's not trying to be, and that their goal was to create 10 transparent pop-rock bangers, you'll probably like this.

still kinda dreading putting this on. gonna give it a try some day just to know for myself but everything ive read about it makes it look like they lost a ton of the personality and character that made nmg so compelling

nahh, it's more like take NMG and put it in a Poptart. It's a NMG flavored Poptart.

You know, a "you're going to die alone" Poptart.

Night Channels, The Magdalene, Eiffel and Three On A Match are my favourites from Dealer.
I still think the opener and closer are by far the best on this album but as expected it is growing on me.
Also Dillards is one of my favourites on NMG (but Bastardiser might be the best one).
Also how is this comparable to Seiko Oomori?

@Onion fear not; it has personality! Plenty of it. Might just not be the personality you were hoping she’d have.

Cool interview with Conor. Dude went from cleaning up puke at the Pageant to headlining it. You love to see it.

This is like an album of "Nearer My God"s but none are as good

I feel like I'm living in a parallel universe if people genuinely think this is better than Albatross or Dealer
