No, no - it's Tremonti who needs to get over himself, if anyone. I appreciate that he CAN do what he does. Hell, sometimes - even in Open Your Eyes - I even appreciate that he DOES do it. But far too often, he bases a song around a solo, or runs roughshod over a song by drawing all the attention onto himself. No matter what way you look at it, that's completely the wrong attitude. There are times to be tasteful and discreet, and there are times to shred. All good guitarists should know the difference, and Tremonti hasn't quite got the hang of it. I don't say he's cocky, I say he gets carried away.
Simple.
I thnk Iai took care of this, but he only solos in like 5 or 6 of the songs. He doesn't go over the top like you say he does. IN fact there are about 5 or 6 songs that would be considered slow songs. Maybe you need to listen to the cd bfore you judge him. I think you are just basing your opinion on "open your eyes" and thats bad because that is not a good example.
Also id like to tell you all that they are covering Rock and roll by Led Zeppelin now.

Alter Bridge covering Rock n Roll?
Truly?
And Bartender, I actually don't really see the comparison in sound of pearl jam and creed. It's like the comparison between Nirvana and Bush. I don't really hear it - but hey, again that is only my opinion.
The thing is, when people say Creed and Pearl Jam are similar, they mean in sound, not in lyrical content, background, etc.
Arrgghhh, not TRUE! Vocally, YES! Lyrically YES! Music? NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! TOTALLY DIFFERENT!!!
GOD, what is WROONGG with you people!!?
I'm sorry, Bartender. I love you.
But seriously. NO!

But vocals are a part of what they sound like, so they do sound similar. Obviously they're not identical.

There's just something about this thread seems to make people compulsively argue. Besides, nothing wrong with big discussions in reviews. I encourage it most of the time.

ok well i think that alter bridge are gonna be amazing live, just dunno if their gonna use guitar backing tracks or what tremonti does loads of guitar tracks

Their new singer, Myles, plays guitar, and I hear he's pretty good. :thumb: So live, it'll be Myles on rhythm and Trem on lead. Badass.
|
| |
Yeah, there's been a lot of discussion in here about Myles' guitar skills. Nothing but good things - which makes me wonder if Myles is able to do all Tremonti's fingerpicking stuff.
Trem would probably do all that, you think? I would be more concerned about whether Myles can pull off all the fast riffs in the rhythm of "One Day Remains" cleanly while singing.
|

yah. why do they use such dodgy tunings though
cause i wanna learn broken wings but i cant be arsed to tune it like he does

Yeah that low A rumbles pretty nicely. I'm pissed about One Day Remains. That fast picking riff is way out of my league, because my picking chops are ****: I always play legato for fast stuff. Rats!

Exact same problem I have! I am a drummer mostly but i have been learning guitar and although i can play that song somewhat well, I have not yet been able to try it in the right tuning...
As for the recent arguments ocurring... I'm late, so, uh, what he (ripper22) said. :thumb:
And this is so cool that the most popular thread in musicianforums CD reviews history happens to be my review... Granted my review wasn't very good, but still!
This is the most popular review in the forum's history, it must be said.
DekWannaBFlea - I have heard about 9 of the tracks from this album - I downloaded them mainly because I play a PRS Tremonti SE, and desperately wanted Tremonti to have been part of a good band, so that my guitar wouldn't be 'that gay Creed guy's guitar' anymore. And anyway, I actually defended the solo in Open Your Eyes earlier in this thread. I think it adds to the song; it's not what you expect, but there's nothing wrong with it.
zed4321.pumpkin_pie - we'll agree to disagree. At least we agree One Day Remains slays anything by Creed.
Agreed.
And u play a PRS Tremonti SE? That's my dream guitar.... the one I want, but will be too poor to ever afford. I play a BC Rich...it's an early 90's job. It grinds, but it is NOTHING like a PRS. I have suddenly gained respect for you Iai. What's the action like?

To give you info about them playing live......
1) myles only plays like 2 songs, the cover of Highway star and Open your eyes. They didn't have enough time for myles to write stuff and wanted to get this album out. Tremonti does all the guitar work, and i think myles will get more involved with rythem on the next album, which will make it even more badass.
2) Tremonti (as far as i know) doesn't use guitar backing (i assume that is pre recorded guitar playing?) He does alot of stuff that sounds very similar to the cd but doesn't sound exactly like it.
3) They are amazing live.......The crowd sings along to every song. The energy they give off is amazing. When tremonti starts to make the guitar "sing" he has this facial expressions that are simply amazing. Myles flings around the minc stand and jumps on the amps, he knows how to have the stage pressence. Myles is an amazing live singer, he sounds like he is singing the album, but there are differences that make you notice that its not prerecorded. They hint at classic rock covers like rock and roll (now they do that cover) by Zeppelin, they started a reggae version of stairway to heaven (lol), back in black by AC/DC, they just hinted at these songs and were messing around but i would have loved to here them do it. They are the best band i have heard live and i think they are one of the best live bands out there currently.

Cheers Iai! Sounds sweet as.
I actually bought my BC Rich cause I liked how it looked ( but everyone is diff ). It is really 80's looking - it's more of a feminine looking guitar, so not for blokes. And yeh, the overdrive really kicks it. It has a nice action as well, but still .... PRS's are just so sweet. You can really tell that they're hardy - and that they sing (ie: they sound so good that it's a work of pure aesthetics). Anyway, I will have to check out opeth.

Sorry dude, but I just had to laugh at that... Anyone who thinks his crazy insanity on stage--that is, his absolutely NUTS facial expressions--are amazing has funny ideas...
I mean, I'd love to see em live, but on videos and stuff that i've seen, i never do anything but crack up when i see his mouth start warping out of shape!
And to the people talking about Tremonti SE's, are they really worth the money? My guitarist was thinking of getting one, but wasn't sure if it was enough of an upgrade over his current fender strat to justify dropping $5-600...

agreed i bought a ibanez AX somat for 400 bucks and its balls

I love his facial experssions, they are very unique and show that he really loves playing his guitar.

I think £450 is roughly $650 at the moment.

Oh, man, I have got the worst case of guitar face. The Alter Bridge song that gives me the worst case of it is "Find The Real." How bout you folks?
