so just because he gave a 2 that means he's less informed?

Review is on point, however I still enjoy enough of this record to give it a slightly better grade.

Having checked out this, Magma, and From Mars I can safely say that so far Fortitude is the only one I like.

"so just because he gave a 2 that means he's less informed?"

nope, not at all. Everyone here is informed in its own way and right. I have nothing but respect for Hawks, he knows a lot! You may think is fair tho, when you see an album being collectively bashed in a niche, while you are liking pretty damn much, to look over an overall impression.

Like I said, I absolutely love everything they've done prior to this but man.....this album is just an extremely watered down version of their greatness.

If it seriously was a 3, it would be their best album. One of the most overrated Metal bands of the past decade and a half.

lolol I love Valderrama and how he made the defense of the century. He also scored a lot of goals.

Lol. Honestly, I'm disappointed with how little groove I feel in those two earlier albums. As someone who really likes rhythmically driven metal, I found those two albums pretty boring. From Mars just felt like dull thrash, where I'm just being barraged with rolling bass kicks and Magma just felt like a slower more atmospheric take on that sound. That doesn't interest me at all. I find Fortitude grooves more, although I wouldn't say it's outstanding in that department. (Been listening to a lot of Intronaut this past week and they could teach these boys something about groove). But fortitude also feels more varied and brings a lot of fun, big choruses to the table. I can see that it teeters dangerously close to radio/butt rock but it *just* about keeps enough distance from it to be enjoyable.

I've given this another listen, I think it's grown on me a bit. I still don't like The Chant very much but most of the rest of the songs are fine.

I think The Trail is a really interesting song. I think it works better than the typical chuggy tracks.

Some songs aren't that bad but some are among the worst I've heard in ages.

"Gojira's third album is chock full of heart-pounding blast beats, whirling chugs, and incredible vocal ranges that will leave anybody in the niche audience wanting more, and impressing nobody else. 3/5" -Allmusic
