I was (mostly) joking about the pinky thing. I don't think it affects playing whatsoever, but it's widely known to be a rookie move. Snobs protest that the hand should be floating over the guitar when playing and not resting anywhere on it (unless you're palm muting).
In my opinion, everyone's hands are different, everyone's guitars are different, and everyone's mind is different so do whatever works for you. Clearly it's working for this guy.
