you only need money if you're a willing participant in capitalism

Not what I said; I said it is not ALWAYS about the following or the money. Just because something is popular and has resources backing it does not mean it is a product of quality.
I'd argue money means less in the modern era considering how accessible the music market has become. Success is obviously still difficult, but that hinges a lot on luck.

But at the end of the day what makes this good is the outrageously deep and layered synthesizers. And the ear-worm melodies present in every track. And the sense of build throughout the album, only tracks like blinding lights and in your eyes feel like stand-alone singles, everything else has extended intros and outros that connect everything into a cohesive package and I LOVE that type of shit. I like how some of the songs feel religious/confessional. There’s some chord progressions here that could be present in a Catholic Church. And goddamnit, I think Abel’s voice and flow is iconic.
Plus I got a hundred million homies that will back me up.

That's good for you, man. I think I'll stick to the little bandcamp crowds.
|
| |
the melodies are flat and just cuz those synths sound 80s don't mean they have much to em
abel's voice and flow is only iconic if you've 5d every one of his tapes
|
| |
hey man, there’s nothing wrong with that either. But I bet they’d dig it if you threw em a couple $$ ;)

Starboy is more about stand-alone tracks and singles (and a bunch of filler) if that’s more your thing.
But something tells me that’s not the point you’re trying to get across.

@THISISMYWAR: I bet you refer to people as “sheeple.” Also, what about literally every other sentence in my post you are quoting?
|
| |
if you're braggin about the people that can back you up you are a bonafide pussy
stand up for yourself or shut up

I’m good thanks

to me it's a synth-pop album, not even an R&B album. where is the R&B? The way he sings is to use natural tones directly without much singing technique, so one sound off says "he always sounds the same", but that's not necessarily a bad thing, is it? It goes well with the cloudy synthesizer effect. A pop record.
a stunning pop record. But because it's straightforward, there's not much depth to it, and it's easy to get tired after hearing it a few times.

“to me it's a synth-pop album, not even an R&B album. where is the R&B?”
100% agree.
Most of the depth comes from the music, not the voice. But as you said, his voice fits well with the compositions. It’s just another instrument in the mix.
