"It fucks with your expectations, and after the mind trippy ending you either love it o hate it and who hated it it's usually because he identified himself way too much into it or completely missed the point."

No, no one is missing the point. They realize perfectly what his albums are. It's just thinly stringing together two separate genres or subgenres with little to no synthesis or development and cycles through them to give off a false veneer of eccentricity. There's nothing unprecedented about this man's music. Some of the tracks on here sound so bland, Eurovision would have accepted them.

I miss albums like Ki when it actually seemed like he gave a shit about doing anything other than writing showtunes

Sounds a lot like you are missing the point by assuming that there is no method to the madness. I mean, it's perfectly fair to dislike the end product the Townsend puts out, but to dismiss it as randomly stringing together ideas without any thought or reason in order to exude a "false veneer of eccentricity" is a laughably shallow assessment of the man's body of work.

I mean I used to be one of the biggest Devy fanatics on the site and I kinda agree that this and his past few releases feel kinda disjointed and everything-but-the-kitchen-sink in a bad way

Saying that there's no synthesis or development does not mean that he didn't think when he did this nor that he didn't have a reason for it. I'm sure he did. However, when it comes to integrating those ideas and different genre elements well, he falls short significantly.

And you're perfectly justified in feeling that way. A lot of people do, and it's a valid opinion. But making the claim that Devy hasn't put the utmost thought into everything he puts out and is being random merely for the sake of being random is pretty damn ridiculous.

Yes, and the reason you provide for why he did was to "give off a false veneer of eccentricity". Are you missing your own point?

Given the extent to which people have overblown Biomech in the two decades since its release and the actual content of it, it entirely deserves that 2.
