Aric is painting his drumkit all by himself and sometimes he sells old stuff from it. He has an own facebook page where he shares stuff like that.

this record is what happens when u tell a talented drummer to 'not hold back'. its an absolute joy (in comparison porcupine trees DW for me is a prime example of a drummer being needlessly restricted)

im still digesting this record, but its good thats for sure.

@inthox it purely works because the music can 'bear' the hyperactive drumming, if you put this kind of drumming on a Porcupine Tree record it would be completely ruined. Drumming like this just works way better in progressive / technical metalbands

I never felt like Porcupine Tree had restricted drumming though, I always felt like it just fit the music and Gavin did some cool things occassionaly

i feel like he couldve done a lot more on DW regarding his incredible potential. drumming on DW is rather simplistic i gotta say. still like the record thou.

on blank planet he got much more spotlight and unleashed the beast within (anestethize). one of the finest drummers today, thats a given (pun intended)

my hot take would be

this is like if Animals as leaders were to write interesting music at the expense of technicality.

or something along those lines.

thou the record is complex/technical its still surprisingly accessible. feel like i could show some songs to untrained ears and theyd find smth to appreciate, guitar parts here just sound way too cool.

I personally think that this could've benefited if it had had great vocals on it.... just my 2 cents.
