i think most people just really got a tad too excited over the good ass production this got. It's worth celebrating, i guess.
But the songs themselves are... painfully average. And she certainly is not the most skilled of singers, either.

"it won't have a long shelf life"
it already has a longer shelf life than 95% of 2018 gtfohwtbs

Longer than Hopesfall, apparently.
Also, it's hard to determine a given record's "shelf life" when using sput as a metric since this is a fairly niche community containing a variety of differing tastes. Whether it lasts in the popular conscience or not, that's up to time. And to that point, I doubt Golden Hour will last; however, few albums end up obtaining such power nowadays anyways. We live in a go-go-go, short attention span society with new music out every day--takes a lot for anyone/any group to pierce through that.
That's why when the conversation shifts to noteworthy albums of the past ~10 years or so, the list is often short when a consensus is reached. A fairly average pop/country release will not be entering that discussion come next year, as there will be an equally average pop record that will replace it and receive similar accolades (at least here). Same happens with all/most other genres.

BrushedRed popping in with a characteristically shitty take.

sorry to the haters but I promise you will see this on tons of decade lists, and deservedly so

It will be on tons of lists, doesn’t mean it should, but hoping people that already have a strong connection to this album will start miraculously falling out of love with it, seems misguided. It isn’t impossible, but I don’t think you can make that sort of prediction at this stage.

You're welcome to make assurances against the "haters," but as I said, it's out of our hands. Time will ultimately decide, and judging things as they stand, I doubt this will have the staying power of other albums. We'll have to wait and see.

it's just as easy to make that prediction as it is for you to predict that it won't have staying power. everyone is just arguing their opinion.

I will admit, this has been one of the toughest albums to explain my love for. I'm painfully aware of its flaws and limitations, and yet when I put it on, I get into a state of euphoria and love taking in the relaxing atmosphere; all the flaws just start dissipating before me. Maybe it's the atmosphere, maybe it's just the earnestness of it all. Idk, it's a strange record for me. I don't even think I explained it quite well enough in my own review, lol

it's an immersive record that imparts a positive worldview, which feels like enough sometimes. my go-to justification though is that it's a masterclass in traditional songwriting. the songs are so robust and well-written that I'm hedging my bets on it being enduring, it's proven as much over the course of the year

So what you are saying is we need to get rid of Sowing somehow.

I saw that this was also ARTV's album of the year. But Fantano didn't give it the time of day.

seriously though I haven't been made to feel the emotions I felt on Rainbow since I saw Toy Story as a kid. That stays with me.

I know every record has its detractors, but that's not what's bothering me. I think this is the first well-liked album I've seen since The Sound of Perseverance where so many people not only dislike it, but seem actively pissed off at the album and are desperately seeking to get others to agree instead of just letting them like what they like. I understand I'm speaking as someone who likes the album, but really, those people need to shut the fuck up and relax. It's not that serious, and it's subjective anyway.
