definitely is better than axe and all we love. think i prefer this to no heroes too and I haven't heard petitioning and forever enough to rank them among these so this might be 3rd

this doesn't really have a distinct vibe like any of their previous albums had, it feels like a direct continuation of AWLWLB

There's other examples, but Ban-man's harsh vocals after the interlude in A Single Tear, and the way he enters Under Duress alone show how good of a vocalist he is

"this doesn't really have a distinct vibe like any of their previous albums had, it feels like a direct continuation of AWLWLB"

I have to agree, I think that's what knocks this down a bit for me.

AWLWLB took so long to grow tho, this had way more grip on me on first listen.

It doesn't really have a specific atmosphere no, but it's Converge being Converge and more dynamic and varied than any of their previous releases, with some really good songs. That's all I hoped it would be.

I'd disagree on it not having a vibe of its own. It has a much darker and more morose feel than AWLWLB. It's also more mathy and chaotic than that album was with a distinct post rock/metal vibe on certain tracks as opposed to AWLWLB which was mostly short bursts of hardcore and some melodic post hardcore tracks between them. Also Jake is using clean vocals way more confidently and frequently on here.

I have a feeling that this is going to be the lowest rated Converge album after the hype dies down.

And there's no way this will fall below No Heroes. It'll probably stay around 4 or even go up to 4.1 if it gets more positive reviews. I can maybe see it going to down 3.9 or 3.8 but not any lower
