I find I like what Steven Wilson does in cycles, I liked his first and third solo albums and now this. But Grace for Drowning and H.C.E. bore me to tears after a while. But very surprised, for all the hype surrounding talk of him branching out to new styles here what we got just ended up being a modernized PT album.

There are serious PT vibes here, especially on PWED (early 2000s) and Asylum (late 90s)

If I ranked his solo albums they'd be HCE>this>GfD>Raven>Insurgentes

The bonus track A Door Marked Summer starts like Drown with Me, and has vibes of late 90s/early 2000s PT meets this and GfD. Amazing song.

Oh my god.

Sometimes I forget how embarrassing Germany is from the cultural perspective. But then some random link forces me to leave the bubble I built for my own health and jump into a fucking morning show of all the possible apocalypses. Jesus christ.

Makes me wonder how much of this self-promotion is from Steven's end or the new label. I'm thinking it's probably the label.

"I like to upset my fans sometimes" - and the "host" translates it as "he wants to expand his fanbase", holy shit.

It's definitely the label making him do all this promotion.

Holy crap that video, way to take the cart downhill and pray for a tree to stop you on the way down. Ninet is wonderful though, probably the best part of the album.

Despite some unfathomable turds like Song of I and Permanating (what?) and the very, very unfortunate use of Steven's falsettos, there are some brilliant moments here, so i will eat some crow: the ending of t/t, Ninet on pariah (please that FB line, pleeeeease) and some serious PT moments here and there.

Not as bad as I thought it would be, and a lot to enjoy but the bad moments really snapped me out of the good ones.

The ending of the t/t is the worst part of the song; Song of I and Permanating are some of the best tracks; you're right about Pariah though, Dew

Wilson being forced to stoop so low as to perform on a German news network on a weekday morning. His hope and optimism: gone.

lol bloc what kind of TV you normally watch?

JJ, it may be we were looking for different things on the album. If he achieved a way to satisfy both sides I'd call that a victory for him.
