I also started with Jane Doe and I absolutely could not comprehend or appreciate it. Axe to Fall came out a few years later and I jammed it and loved it right away and started working my way through their discog

i grew up just north of boston and always heard a lot about converge but had never listened to them. a few years ago i decided it was time to try to really broaden my musical horizons. i think the first song i listened to was the saddest day. it took a few attempts to even finish the track. i did a bit more research on them and started with jane doe. still pretty extreme for my taste, jumped to awlwlb which had just come out and that's when i really started to enjoy teen. trespasses really hit me. then i think the band finally clicked and suddenly became a top two band for me when i went back to jane doe and listened to homewrecker. it was like an instant switch from "what the fell do people see in this???" to "holy shit i think i love this"

I listened to Jane Doe after seeing the massive acclaim it has here when I first joined the site and thought it was one of the worst things I ever heard. Fast forward trying and trying to understand the music with something finally clicking on their other work making me go back to Jane Doe and instantly regretting never getting into it before.
XingKing, Your absolutely right about recommending YFM since this ep is very similar. I didn't really think too much about that when I initially wrote what I did.

Yeah I didn't like Jane Doe at all at first. Wasn't until AWLWLB came out that I really started getting into these guys hard.

Yeah honestly Jane Doe was really the last one I got into. Even after I dug this band for a while it took me a minute to appreciate it.

I wish I dug Axe to Fall more. I still like it a lot but I never really got all the appeal tbh.

It's certainly not their best album but it also has some of their best tracks imo though.

Finally heard this one. "Eve" is their best long song, no question.

Oh there's a question alright.

is you fail me a "long song"? bc if so it's you fail me ez

i think songs like grim heart/black rose, jane doe, and wretched world are the "long songs" off the top of my head, not 100% sure i would count yfm or in her shadow. in her shadow seems more in line with the rest of the longer songs though
