"Although I feel like a song like So Falls the World could be the next James Bond theme lol"

I can totally see Ulver doing a Bond theme after this

4.5 might be a little high for now, lets see if it can hold up over time

I'm struggling with what to rate this. Ulver is one of my favorite bands, and I'm really liking certain tracks (So Falls the World, Angelus Novus, 1969) but as a whole it just hasn't clicked like other albums. How important are the lyrics on this? I know this is more of a concept album.

Finally threw this on this morning and even though I'd read about the direction I was still surprised at how this sounds. Might take some getting used to, but I don't hate it lol.

Angelus Novus is so great.

Angelus Novus sounds like a Svidd Neger B-side, and Coming Home could've been on Perdition City. The constant referring to this as a pop album makes me think that I don't actually know what pop is.

It's largely the structure of the songs here, which are (unusually for Ulver) often verse-chorus-verse-chorus, or some variation thereof.

Yeah I don't really get the pop tag either, but whatever still slays.

It's tenuous, but I can sort of see where it's coming from. Much of it seems to stem from those who are having a difficult time with fully defining the style.
"..but whatever still slays."
Agreed. "So Falls the World" is a definite standout for me at this point.

This is pop. But not good pop. But also, not poppy enough.
