Yeah... furthermore, if you are not familiar with Kurt Rosenwinkel or Jonathan Kreisberg (present era guitar players both) check them out.

if you mostly jammed "classic" "experimental" jazz okkyung lee is really a bit far
conference of the birds is really essential and i found it to be quite accessible too but i said the same about the fire! orchestra records and apparently people disagree
speaking of which, if you dig fire! orchestra you have to dig globe unity orchestra
since you don't have a fire! orchestra record rated however i'll assume you have never jammed them which i'd encourage you to change. they most likely dropped back to back AOTYs these two years.

the last rec is kind of something else entirely as the jazz takes the backseat to the weird sides of the folk world. amazing album imo but i'd totes get it if someone was not to like it.

Liebman is total class, these recs are massively appreciated.

There's something I can't quite put my finger on but it's connected on some other level recently. It's hard to tear yourself away from it.

Hmm... I lost you a bit there. When it pertains to your recent adhesion of Jazz that is?

Indeed, having previously seen jazz as completely impenetrable Bitches Brew opened the door for me a couple of years back and it's been a journey ever since.

Miles was a genius… he once attended a rock concert and noticed two things…
The place was packed yet the musicians didn’t know much about music.
He decided he wanted the audience. He created fusion…

Jazz - A Film By Ken Burns is available as a 4 disc DVD set running to about 12 hours. I would recommend it to anyone getting into jazz. I am off for now.
Cheers!

This isn't all that abstract, but fairly idiosyncratic. It differs mostly from other jazz of its time by being a suite composition.

agreed, i don't know why some people seem to see this an an intimidating avant-garde monolith, i mean there's a lot going on in parts but the way he uses texture and timbre makes it clear how tightly composed this is
