I thought they got worse, I haven't enjoyed his vocals since Nightmare

I always enjoyed his vocals honestly, except maybe stst. And parts of CoE (as much as I adore that album)
|

CoE is a solid record, but his vocals are abysmal on Strength of the World. Couldn't even stand that track when I first discovered the album as an emo middle schooler.

Yeah, they have a certain charm to them tbh
I gotta be in the mood to listen to some A7x

I love Strength of the World and they aren't great

The vocals are about the only thing that get my attention with Avenged, their guitarist does zero for me most of the time. Rhythm section is decent enough though and occasionally one of them will come up with something really cool.

"The Rev and Synyster were always the best part of the band"
Agreed. Brooks Wackerman seems to have brought good influence on these guys compared to the previous album. Shadows sounds really shot. Though, it is not as kick ass to me as their previous best songs, they kind of changed style, still Synyster put nice solos in.
4,4 is my average. Best songs by the end "Exist", "Fermi Paradox", "Roman Sky", "Angels" and "The Stage".

Angels is easily one of the best and most listenable things off of this

Rythem section is solid, everyone played their part well. For the genre of music this is which is my go-to.. I can't complain. If anything, I'm impressed by their step forward as songwriters and musicians.
I don't find their early years as good, can't get into it. I saw a young band with talent, but I found them jocking an amateur sound instead of fully crafting their songs. The guitar work, drums, and melodic bits on WTF are awesome, but the aggressive tone thrown on top of them isn't approachable.
Which sucks.. because the 'good' could have been salvaged enough to maybe have been their best record, for me atleast.
The Stage I see as a natural progression, moving forward, not backwards into familiar territory.
