From a guy who hasn't listen to a whole lot of this band I think its ok. Don't think it's that bad but a but softer from what I've heard from them at least. I might be the only one, but did anyone thought that Chrysalis kind of sounded like a song Ghost would play? I don't know at least part of that song reminded of Ghost a little.

Opeth are trying too hard to revive a dead genre that no one cares about.

The quality sure does kick in half way. 1st half: 3-3.5, 2nd half: 4. But the lyrics are still at an all time low

Can't really decide on a rating yet but I really like the sound of this. And strange brew is really killing it. The production is great BUT I find it very fat and a tad bit heavy on the bass. Am I the only one?

Yea I found the bass a bit much too, a shame because there's some quite dense moments that get blurred out by it.

The first 2 minutes of Strange Brew are unnecessary, and then we get that slightly annoying prog keyboard with some random weak-ass chords on top. Then they almost get going, but the piano holds them sensibly back.

Then: THERE IS CATTLE BETWEEN YOU AND ME

Then some kind of ultra-dad-prog-rock. The bit about 4:40 is hard to listen to. Then we go dowwwn in tempo... down... getting sleepy... piano muzak for so long... zzzz...zzzz.

Alright! 7 minutes in, here the build-up comes! Except it doesn't, it just stays on a boring plateau. And then back down... *yawn*... song ends.

The fact that you heard ''chasm'' as ''cattle'' explains why I think you heard an entirely different song.

Grasping at straws, I see. But it's great that you like it.

Holy shit, a 3.1? Looks like Opeth is going the In Flames way

Also, I don't like when people use "dad" as a description of music. I saw some deathcore faggot on youtube who jerked off to Angelmaker use it describing Cannibal Corpse, and saying people should "get with the times" and "accept the evolution of metal". Geez seriously, the worst fucking kind

"Opeth are trying too hard to revive a dead genre that no one cares about."

Pink Floyd - Endless River - 2.5 million sold in 2014

Cannibal Corpse - 2 million total worldwide album sales, making them the most popular death metal band of all time.

I was expecting way worse judging by reviews and user ratings. This was fine honestly, between 3 and 3.5 on first listen. I hope that Opeth moves on to something different next, 3 prog rock albums is enough.
