Holy shit, this is fucking good, that's what it is. I don't usually spin melodeath albums more than a few times nowadays, and this is just so full of sadness, anguish and overall tons of fun, love spinning this album. I really do. especially the parts with the fuckn blast beats, because they are brutal and aaaaaaaaah fuck me, i love this shiet

Insomnium's pretty consistent. They've arguably made no really bad albums.

Finally finished reading the story. Really good. Genuinely creepy/scary at times.
The lyrics evoke the story really well, they pull some lines right out of the story and work them into the soundscape perfectly.
This is such an awesome experience.

I still haven't listened with lyrics, or even read the lyrics yet. Haven't looked for them since release day so I'll have to do that.
Edit: God damn, that was brutal.

There was a guy I saw with a shirt for this album, was pretty sweet.

@durrzo yeah man. It's not a happy ending, although the lyrics make it seem like no one makes it, but in the story one guy does.
@MarsKid I got the Artbook and the shirt, both are gorgeous, really good quality.

Had to bump this up. It keeps getting better and better.

There is nothing even remotely diminishing about this album's returns. In fact, if I could get more of it I wouldn't hestitate. From the first note to the last this is a magnificent, cohesive thrill ride without a misplaced chord or wasted moment. My only frustration with it is why the FUCK this band still hasn't managed to release an album whose dynamic range exceeds 6 (barring vinyl).
Someone really needs to educate Insomnium about the finer points of sound quality. That said, in terms of production it's still arguably their cleanest and most listenable to date so I'll take small gains wherever I can find them.

For a modern melodic death metal album, Swano nailed the production. Sounds much better than the past few albums. This album really does get better with more spins.

Yeah most melodeath honestly sounds like washed out mushy...mush. This gets like that in a few spots but overall it breathes MUCH better than most.

The production is definitely solid. The best they have had, I would say. You want bad production go listen to One For Sorrow. The lead guitar tone on that album... Eek.

ATWW suffers from horrible production issues too.....

ATWW is actually pretty solid. It doesn't always sound good. If you try to blast it in your car for example, then yeah, it sounds bad. But with a good set of headphones it's perfectly fine. Of course if you swap to it after listening to something with really high quality production then it throws you until your ears adjust.

Sitting at a 3.2 with this right now. May go up with a couple listens. The story aspect is pretty cool, and as a 40 minute story it's better than I expected.
