If you like the style of their more recent albums, NITND/DEK, you should probably keep listening to this until you enjoy it (:

This album holds a lot of hits but a few misses. But honestly the hits outweigh the misses. No two tracks sound the same. The song structures really go with the track name which is something I really value. If the music doesn't fit the track title than it sucks. But is album really made the music fit the titles.

Agree, except the stuff about the titles, which I don't get.

What about if the album doesn't have a title track?

So much lovely m/ in these songs. The review mentions the band never sounded so comfortable and I agree. It's so smooth. Might be the bongos.
The guitar and drum parts are often completely awesome, but it was only really apparent to me after many listens.

Top 10 in my 2016 list. Also, today I listened to Dead End Kings. Why do people bash it?

Not sure, I like this more but it's still a solid 4. Passer is so damn good and mysterious it needs more love.

Speaking for myself, DEK is easily the worst out of the last three because it feels like a friendlier version of NITND. That's prob what others dig about it. It's a great album, nothing against that consensus. Also I can't hate an album with that artwork

I'm relatively new to the Katatonia catalogue, so I have to listen well the previous albums.

This band got kinda stale after NItND. Then again I haven't heard some of their mid era albums.

I started with The Great Cold Distance and I think it's a great way to start.

I think Fair Deal is their most listener friendly album.

It could be actually. It has a very depressive sound (their best in that aspect imo) but it's also very catchy. Pretty creative too for old Katatonia (see the jazzy intro to Don't Tell a Soul), it's a predecessor of what they are today

Just found an amazing video of Jonas singing The Cures 'Love Song' at a wedding, random as hell but so awesome haha.
