Morningrise is definitely the band's most loosely constructed and disjointed album. It's a bunch of really badass ideas that just don't flow well. Granted, I still think the album's great of course

I'd argue Orchid is the worst offender of this, but Morningrise is no shining star in cohesive song writing. Both are legendary albums regardless.

I'm pretty sure no one said that. At least not itt.

Aiwaz wants an example of a moment in Morningrise that is not cohesive.

Black Rose Immortal alone has a lot of them. Like, if you'd start a new track every time the music on there stops (I don't exactly remember how often that happens, but it's like 3 times in 20 minutes as far as I know), barely anyone would notice that it's actually still the same song

I can see where people get the idea that it lacks cohesion though. It is a 20 minute song of a bunch of different riffs that never repeat themselves. so I get when people say that, def don't agree though

which is impossible since changing your mind won't happen because you love the song lol
I could give an example of two different riffs in the song to someone and they'd think it's disjointed, and then to a different person and they wouldn't. opinions dude none of this is hard fact
also newpeth fan? the fuk? i've been jamming these guys for ages dude get your head out of your ass with that sass

Just using the first song Advent alone, here are some examples. Obviously my opinion:
3:17 - "where even foes close their eyes and leeeeavve" STOP, start new part.
4:21 - boom, new part, no transition
8:03 - They rely on this a ton on this album to merge parts
9:20 - see 8:03
11:05 - hard part switch
13:26 - eh
My argument is that both Orchid and Morningrise are a collection of parts glued together for better or worse. On MAYH and later albums the songwriting improved and there is a lot less of these moments. Morningrise is my favorite Opeth album but when it comes to seamless songwriting it is lacking, especially compared to everything after it.

Honestly, there are a lot of great bands who still have awkward disjointed transitions. Hell, Death are one of my favorite bands of all time and that's one of my main problems with them. For instance, Suicide Machine's solo section always sounded incredibly sloppy to me. My favorite Opeth album, Still Life, also has a similar problem with the way Serenity Painted Death starts. We have this really cool collection of riffs that sound well-paced and seamless, but then all of a sudden, the song comes to a complete stop before the slower riff starts. So I'm not saying Morningrise is bad or anything (it's quite good), but it can be important to point out those little niggling problems with songwriting structure and cohesion... especially on an album that consists of five 10-20 minute songs

"Also the fact I love the song has nothing to do with someones analysis on why it's disjointed"
**user gives you a good breakdown of a song in their opinion
"Are you kidding about Advent? That's the best part of the whole song. Maybe your brain throws a rod when you listen to it"
give it up dude you're arguing for no reason

Aiwaz, man honestly, sorry but all you do in your replies is talk about people's brains and how they don't "understand" the songs. Why would anyone bother discussing with you, for real?

Aiwaz, the problem isn't that you're presenting an argument, but rather because you're being an arrogant ass about it :]
