@Voltimand

I heard Myung stayed in the studio for about 10 minutes recording.

He wanted his performance to be spot on and he played all his parts again and again till he had the best results.

Myung is far too quiet to take a huge role in the process. He seemes to like his role.
I feel now that MP is gone it's The JP Show now.
Was listening to A Nightmare to Remember and MP was hugely overbearing, playing drums (fantastically I add) wasn't enough. He had to shove his stupid vocals everywhere and have everyone play "metal" sounding riffs.
But this....this is just weird. Dad rock mixed with way too much ambition. For all his faults at least MP was an absolute delight to listen to, Mangini is so so dull.

35 minutes in and I'm bored. The music has everything but soul. Ambitious in scale yet bland in execution and a lot of filler. Cut the length of the album in half rewriting the worst DT lyrics yet and this could potentially score a 4.

That's been the problem with Dream Theater's more recent albums- they're technically proficient but lack any soul. That's why Metropolis Part 2 is so treasured.

Like it a lot so far. It is a serious undertaking to wrap your head around 2+ hours of music, but right now I'm leaning towards a rating in the 3-3.5 territory.

At what point does a hater become someone who has legitimate issues with the record? I'm asking because I see this term tossed around carelessly on a daily basis.

no underflow, they do exist and no one is referring to you......how many 1's are there from jokers who haven't listened or heard a decent amount of this?

Lol, I'm aware you weren't referring to me. I was sincerely curious about it what that term means these days because of how it's tossed around so much.

either way, i don't think most consider a 'hater' someone that has legitimate issues with a record

@titan same goes for all the 5's and 4.5's. Take a look at some of the 5.0 accounts. They're mostly alts that 5.0'd all DT content

Yep.

Its sad to have initially rated this that high realizing that while listening to it on a 2 hour road trip I'm rarely hearing the bass, and bass booster didn't ever help :/

The sheer number of tracks makes it very hard for me to get into this. Short(er) songs are not what I'm used to coming from DT. First listen left me quite disappointed but at third/fourth spin there were some very enjoyable parts to be found. Will take some time to properly rate it I guess...
