I'd rather he was euthanized than him dying in pain.

is euthanasia legal where he died?

Assuming he died in NY, nope.

Glad you guys got my euthanasia commentary speculation thing. I'd rather he was euthanized than him suffering through the whole death process as well. And of course that wouldn't lessen Blackstar's quality in any way. I think it would actually add up to the mystique of it, I don't know. Maybe it just wouldn't contribute a single thing.

I think he died in Manhattan (New York), yeah.

You guys know that he was writing the followup to this record when he died, right? Clearly he thought he had a little more time than he did, so highly unlikely it was euthanasia

Yeah, I think the doctor predicted he had a few months up to even a year... but the cancer was more aggressive than predicted I guess.

Euthanasia is illegal in New York state

Would this be a good place to start with Bowie?

as great as this is, no

Yeah, I'm searching some stuff up and euthanasia isn't legal in Manhattan (the place where he passed away). Anyway, the only thing we can do is speculate (rationally, of course, not spewing some David Icke conspiracy theory rubbish about how David was a reptillian satanist magician who secretly had a thing for Aleister Crowley since the Hunky Dory days).

@Mongi, this is my favorite Bowie record, but it's not the right starting point. Go with The Rise of Fall of Ziggy Stardust. You can't go wrong with that one!

"While euthanasia and assisted suicide are largely illegal throughout the U.S., many states, including New York, do allow the withdrawal of life-sustaining machines or procedures. “Life-sustaining” in this context, refers to treatments, medication, and/or procedures that take over (or prompt the revival of) the operation of vital organs or bodily functions. - See more at: http://statelaws.findlaw.com/new-york-law/new-york-euthanasia-laws.html#sthash.9be4t5Qf.dpuf"
So unless Bowie was on life-support or killed himself by not taking his meds, if he was euthanized it was illegal.
Not exactly sure if I proved whether he was euthanized or not, but I think I proved something.

@Mongi definitely not, it'd be like starting a book at the final chapter. Go to Ziggy, Hunky or Low, then go to Scary Monsters at least before hearing this.

Seems like he has lots of highly acclaimed stuff, this being one of the highest, so just wanted to know what would be a decent place to start when I give him a try.

@Mongi: Bowie's discography is so diverse that it's worthwhile to just start near the beginning and listen to his evolution. I'd start with the Man Who Sold the World and work forward or jam Ziggy Stardust. My personal favorite is Station to Station though

I'd say Hunky Dory or Low or Heroes or Ziggy... or Station to Station, but not this for a starting point.
