A band's live performance has fuck all to do with the quality of an album

but the production on this makes it nigh unlistenable...I for one would appreciate a live re-release

I'd like to hear it live. I bet it's better.

they exude passion in live shows - and on record, which is why this shines through its awful production

and they are so dang cohesive live. Even when they only had First and Second out, they'd play both EPs front to back with really cool interludes that linked all of the songs together so it sounded like one long track. They've always been a "live" band, and I think Red was the best translation as far as their full lengths go. And yeah this production is awful, I have no idea how John and co gave this the green light.

They really flexed their great songwriting chops on this. So many great hooks.

^Can confirm this, saw them play most of this at Crucialfest last month and it was one of the best live shows I've ever seen.

Absolutely. Chlorine and Wine is like 8000 times better live. So is If I have to Wake Up

This really needs a live rip. I still listen to the live disc that came with the Blue deluxe edition.

Ugh, I'm probably the biggest Baroness fan on the site and even I can't argue the production here is sub-par. As much as I adore Dave Fridmann's entire body of work as a producer, he suuuper dropped the ball on this one. A live re-release would be a 10/10 idea.

Or just a remix/remaster of the original master

Just saw em live again recently and godamn do they crush it. The crowd was fucking awesome, everyone was into it. Reminded me how fucking good they are live, and the new guitarist was great, me and the wife ran into her before the show and she was humble and sweet as can be.

They were still amazing live after releasing this record.

John's quote about Purple: "there is no actual clipping, i checked it many times, on many formats. the record is meant to be hot as hell. it was an artistic decision."

It's completely smashed to bits, not sure what difference it makes if it's technically in the red or not. You could put a brick wall limiter on it and it's not going to clip, but drive it too hard and it ain't gonna sound good.

Squeezed to the max. Maybe too much stereo buss compression idk. Either way, i really rkn yellow red blue are so much better than this. Sigh

Thing is the songwriting is obviously strong on this one. It could even be their best if I could stand to listen to it.
