This blows Leviathan out of the water.

The road north was better though

Definitely doesn't blow Leviathan out of the water, completely different kinds of USBM you're talking about imo.

Leviathan > Panopticon

Band keeps getting more and more boring as time goes on, all these weak sounding folk and shoegaze influences.

Not bad by any means but old stuff was better, this is just weak sounding, no power. If you want melodic easy listening sounding black metal then Drudkh is a better choice,

I love Drudkh, well, mostly. I disagree with your criticism here, though. I think this guy keeps getting better and better.

I would like some blacker material from him, but I suppose we'll never get another s/t. Maybe if he and the Wheels Within Wheels ever get together and finish that collab... in ten years. (Or if that remaster of Disservices ever sees the light of day.)

??? this album has no shoegaze elements, and the marriage of folk and black is almost as old as the genre itself

i can't really wrap my mind around disliking that. Bergtatt sounds like any other lofi album of that era, arguably much more clean.

if you mean Nattens Madrigal, i can get that. can be painful

If you mean Kveldsanger, what???

I don't really care for the first track on Bergtatt. But, once the album gets going, it hits all the right spots.
